These were the prophetic words of Mahatma Gandhi in the recent Bollywood Blockbuster ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’. But probably these words would have been equally appropriate had they come from Gandhiji’s biggest antithesis Adolf Hitler. At least the recent upsurge in far right extremism and ultra nationalism especially in West and Central Europe would seem to support this fact. Those think tanks of Europe who never leave a stone unturned to criticise South Asia, West Asia, Sino-Taiwan relations & the whole of Africa for all the global turmoil should see the way far right extremism is gaining popularity there. It supposedly started with the ascent of the Austrian Freedom Party led by Jorg Haider, which got 27% of the vote in 1999 in the Austrian parliamentary elections, a country where according to Euro barometer, 37% were ‘not sure’ about ever shaking hands with Jews and 50% of the population alleged that Jews were to be blamed for what happened to them. Same is the story in other countries like Belgium, France, Britain, Denmark, Hungary & Germany where the far-right parties are increasingly gaining popularity.

To read more on IIPM Editorial Article, please click here...,

Also visit:

IIPM Publications

Arindam Chaudhuri Initiative

Business & Economy

Source: IIPM, 4Ps, B&E

Hezbollah has gained popular support by providing social services to the poor...

The most meaningful support for Palestinians is from Hezbollah, which was formed in reaction to the 1982 invasion. Hezbollah won considerable prestige by leading the effort to force Israel to withdraw from Lebanon in 2000. Also, like other Islamic movements, including Hamas, Hezbollah has gained popular support by providing social services to the poor. To US and Israeli planners, it therefore follows that Hezbollah must be severely weakened or destroyed – just as the PLO had to be evicted from Lebanon in 1982. But Hezbollah is so deeply embedded within Lebanese society that it cannot really be eradicated without destroying much of Lebanon as well – hence the scale of the attack on the country’s population and infrastructure. In keeping with a very familiar pattern, the aggression is sharply increasing the support for the Hezbollah, not only in the Arab and Muslim worlds beyond, but also in Lebanon itself. Late last month, polls have revealed alarmingly that around 87% of the Lebanese support Hezbollah’s resistance against the invasion, including 80% of Christians and Druze.

For complete IIPM Research & Publication Article, please click here...

Editor: Arindam Chaudhuri; Source: IIPM Publication

Bajaj Auto Ltd. Right at the moment when the biking scene in India was taking shape, Bajaj came out with the KB100 RTZ and the four stroke 4S Champion, but could not play a conclusive inning as competition in the form of Hero Honda’s Splendor and Yamaha RX100 was just too hot to handle. Bajaj realized that in order to break the shackles of its scooter making image, the company will have to do some thing radically different. And radical it did! Bajaj, a company that was ubiquitously & globally known for its scooters, decided to discontinue manufacturing almost all of its scooter brands. But most importantly, it transformed itself into a niche segment leader, beating Hero Honda at its own game. Even though the executive segment is led by Hero Honda, the 150 cc plus premium segment became the domain of Bajaj. With the launch of Pulsar, Bajaj entrenched itself considerably well in the Indian bike market with sales touching almost 700,000 units annually. Hero Honda, despite launching the brilliant 223 cc Karizma, has still not been able to match Bajaj’s indigenously designed & produced Pulsar.

For complete IIPM Editorial Article, please click here...

Editor: Arindam Chaudhuri

Source: IIPM Publication

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://iipm-placements.blogspot.com/2006/09/bajaj-auto-ltd-iipm-4ps-publication.html' title='Bajaj Auto Ltd. However, significant questions related to the role of backers of the violence have remained unanswered. The trouble began in March, when the former Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri dismissed 600 soldiers of the East Timorese army who went on a strike complaining of discrimination. In the ensuing events, rioting erupted in Dili, which was followed by clashes between the pro-government (F-FDTL-East Timor Defence Forces) and rebel groups. The aftermath: scores dead and thousands homeless. Even after international forces under Australia joined in to quell the violence, the semblance of normalcy seemed to get restored only after the democratically elected Alkatiri was forced to resign. But the question remains, why is Australia so interested in “saving” East Timor; and criticising the former Alkatiri government? Pertinent pointers related to the strategic importance of the ‘half island’ nation need to be explored. With a per capita income of $400 (ranked the 192nd nation – or the last), Timor Leste is positioned at the 140th place in Human Development Index. More importantly to Australia is the Timor Gap Treaty of 1989, signed by Indonesia and Australia, which defined East Timor’s maritime boundaries; but unbelievably also defined the sharing of specific East Timorese resources between these two countries at 50-50. But the newly independent East Timorese government not only repudiated the treaty as illegal, but approved in 2002 a petroleum fund (that included the largest Great Sunrise Gas Field supplying natural gas to Australia) that awarded 90% revenue to East Timor and only a measly 10% rest to Australia. The temerity of this step seems to have been repaid to Alkatiri. So would Australia now forcefully and undemocratically revalidate the previous Treaty? Well, Alkatiri’s exit should bear some fruit, eh!

For more on IIPM Publication Article, click here...

Source: (Business& Economy), IIPM; Editor: Arindam Chaudhuri

IIPM Publication: The Company’s Organic-Growth

Que: What was the rationale for the acquisitions you began making in the year 2003? How do they fit into the company’s organic-growth objective?

Ans: We did a lot of heavy lifting in our portfolio because we didn’t have enough juice. We saw where we needed to go, and we wouldn’t get there with our existing businesses. Therefore, we bought homeland security, biotech and water businesses that would give us a stronger foundation for innovation. Around the same time, we started on the sales force and named Beth Comstock CMO to raise our game in marketing. By the end of 2003, we pulled together the best sales and marketing people in the company and formed the Commercial Council, which I chair. That turned out to be a big deal. The council was designed to share best practices and plan growth programs, but more fundamentally, it began to develop this idea of growth as a process.

For more on IIPM Publication Article, click here...

Source: Business& Economy, IIPM , Editor: Arindam Chaudhuri

Wipro switching sockets mid-way (IIPM Publication)

The consumer care and lighting division of Wipro Limited, India’s leading information technology services provider, has acquired North-West Switches business in an allcash deal from the North- West Switchgear Limited.
